Our lil’ thrilling micromechanical roller coaster rides ended and our few Japanese novelties cotton candies gobbled, here we are now ready to leave the horological amusement park Citizen with our Teddy Bear Aqualand as a souvenir under the arm towards, well, back, to the starting point in Switzerland with the brand… Edox!
EDOX SKYDIVER MILITARY
For 2019, Edox lent itself to the Truth or Dare game by producing a timepiece of which only the 555 buyers will have the choice to define its myth or its reality.
Yes, the brand has indeed decided to add a mission to the contract of its marketing trainee whose skills in data mining are so astonishing that his talent should be more effectively used for… archive digging.
From this horological crate digging this modern times digger would thus have, according to the recent legend, succeeded in dredging up a mysterious sketch that time itself had forgotten and on which one could read the following few enigmatic words: “1973. Special production in strictly limited edition. ”
Enough for the Edox heart to run riot in the micromechanical chest of the brand to lead the investigation and try to shed light on this horological Cluedo.
And it is a former watchmak-inspector today retired from Edox who enlightened the brand on this crime of oblivion.
According to his tale, SkyDiver was the code name assigned to a very secret project commissioned by a rich and discreet Swiss colonel.
This anonymous high-ranking officer wanted an absolutely exclusive timepiece for an elite military troop consisting only of mountain paratroopers he had then under his command.
The timepiece produced must have been as reliable and robust as his men, which is why he chose to entrust his project to Edox, known for its timepieces with exceptional water resistance, and able to face any situations the paratroopers might be confronted whether it was on land, in the air, or at sea.
The colonel’s wish for total secrecy of his project was honored until this year edition of Baselworld, when the lips of the brand’s mouth unsealed to reveal the modus operandi of a piece that was until then hidden under the name of SkyDiver.
Edox’s choice to make this enigmatic timepiece sacred on the altar of mystery was also motivated by the fact that the brand celebrates its 135th anniversary as a Master Watchmaker this year.
Powered by a self-winding caliber 80, the SkyDiver Military is a 42mm three-hand date stainless steel watch which makes reliability and robustness its two spearheads, since it is abrasion-resistant thanks to a 2mm thick sapphire crystal and water resistant up to 300 meters thanks particularly to a screwed bottom engraved with a parachute, while remaining perfectly legible thanks to SuperLuminova X1 specific for night reading on the hands and the indexes.
Primarily focused for aficionados of military watches given its SkyDiver Military name, this timepiece will nonetheless thrill collectors and fans of vintage watches, especially thanks to a pouch leather box containing an additional leather vintage bracelet.
EDOX SKYDIVER 70S
In order to balance the military appeal of this SkyDiver with the chic look of vintage, Edox has declined his timepiece in a two-tone chronograph version elegantly mixing stainless steel and Rose Gold called SkyDiver 70s.
Drastically more lifestyle without denying the technical specifics of the SkyDiver Military, the SkyDiver 70s is a more dressy timepiece which will fit on any wrist looking for finesse into robustness.
EDOX CO-1 CARBON CHRONOGRAPH AUTOMATIC
To conclude on the Edox 2019 novelties, we’re going to end with the new version of the automatic chronograph CO-1 Carbon Chronograph Automatic.
Inspired by the XCAT, for Extreme Catamaran, powerboat races and especially the XCAT Twin V6 multihull boats designed in advanced carbon technology allowing them to flirt with the surface of water at 200 km/h, the Edox CO- 1 Carbon Chronograph Automatic is a 45mm timepiece whose carbon case is made of a new material more resistant to abrasion and scratches than traditional carbon, combining layers of ceramic forged in a carbon resin and glass fiber for a distinctive layered appearance and texture.
Powered by the 011 caliber, a self-winding chronograph movement based on a Sellita SW500, this CO-1 Carbon Chronograph Automatic excels in water resistance up to 500 meters, an open-back revealing a black oscillating weight with gold engraving, and a Carbon fiber dial with a brilliant blue pattern.
A timepiece full of contrast and technicality, only waiting for Edox to give the starting signal in order to reach your wrist as fast as the XCATs reach the finish line.
